Fawziyya Suleman

Board Member

Fawziyya Suleman is a a freelance writer, personal blogger, wife and mother. She is a product of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where she studied Economics and French. She is also an old girl of Wesley Girls\’ High School (2011 Year Group).

During her time at KNUST, she served the Ghana Muslim Students Association (GMSA) as a Deputy General Secretary. She also served as the Financial Secretary and General Secretary of the GMSA Educational Committee and the General Secretary of the Editorial Committee. She was also a member of the executive body of the Tertiary Advocates for the Rights of Children (TARC); an extension of the Child Rights Club, of which she was a member in Gey Hey.

Through her commitments to the aforementioned organisations, she has stayed true to her passion for volunteering and community-level engagements for a cause.

She hopes that through IGDF, she can continue to improve the lives of the organisation\’s target group; Muslim girls in Ghana.

Hakeemah Abdul-Kareem

Board Member

Hakeemah Abdul-Kareem is of the WGHS 2013 Year Group. She is a graduate of KNUST and a Medical Officer.
Active, intentional mentorship, is one of the keys to unlocking true potential in muslim girls across all spheres and this drives her interest in the IGDF.
In her leisure she loves to kick back with a good book or explore new cultures through travel.

Hyrana Masoud Salifu

Board Member

Hyrana Masoud Salifu is a Chartered Accountant. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in the United States and a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), UK. She is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ghana (ICAG). She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a combined major in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana, and finished Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast in 2003.

After completing her degree program, Hyrana got recruited by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Ghana, a Big 4 accounting firm, and has been with firm her whole career. She currently works with PwC in the United States and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Hyrana is also a member of the National Association of Black Accountants in the United States (NABA).

Throughout her career with PwC, Hyrana has seen first hand the power of coaching, mentorship, and allyship. This has helped develop and shape her into the woman and professional she is today. To give back, she has been actively involved in such activities; as a leader of inclusion networks that promote diversity, equity and inclusion, an advocate, and coach, mentor and ally to many.

Through IGDF, Hyrana hopes to bring her life and career experience to help Muslim girls in their personal and professional growth and development.

Ayisha Salami

Board Member

Ayisha Salami is a mother of three children, wife, and a registered nurse. She has worked in different areas of nursing and currently works in a level 4 Neonatal intensive care unit.

She is a current student at Chamberlain University working on a Master of Nursing degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Indiana University in 2009 and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2002. Ayisha graduated from Wesley Girls High School in 1996.

Since graduating high school, Ayisha has been involved in the Ghana Muslim Students association (GMSA) starting from Obuasi GMSA and then on to KNUST and the National office. In 2001, Ayisha was the National vice president of GMSA.

She was also greatly involved in the activities of other Muslim organizations in Ghana such as the Ghana Academy of Muslim Professionals and was one of the founding Members of COMOG.
She has been a champion and advocate for the education of Muslim girls through GMSA and was instrumental in organizing Muslim ladies on KNUST campus to form the Ladies Wing of GMSA.

Ayisha believes that the education of Muslim girls is the key to transforming our Muslim communities. She is happy to continue this work that has been put on hold since moving to the United States.

Through mentoring, Ayisha hopes to guide and support Muslim girls to pursue their career goals while staying firm in their faith and maintaining strong Islamic identity.

Latifatu Mohammed

Board Member

Latifatu Mohammed is an old girl of WGHS 2012 Year group. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering and a Masters degree in Speech and Language Therapy, both from the University of Ghana. She is currently a certified Speech and Language Therapist working with Mission Paediatric Clinic, Accra.

During her undergraduate studies, she was appointed as the first DELTAS research fellow (World Bank initiative)to undertake research at the University of Pittsburgh,USA. During her national service, she worked as a research assistant with the West African Center for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens and a teaching assistant at the Department of Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology. During this period, she worked with the team from WACCBIP organize Science conferences and seminars for researchers, staff and students from around the world. Together with colleagues on the DELTAS program, she embarked on outreaches to two senior high schools within the Greater Accra Region.

Latifa worked with Afex Test Prep for a year where she helped with teaching, consultation and scholarship placement for senior high school students who wished to study in the USA. She has by far helped students earn admission to top universities in the USA like Yale, MIT, Columbia, Barnard, UPENN just to mention a few.

As a speech therapist, she has worked in her capacity to empower parents and caregivers of children with special needs and adults with communication needs across the country. She also trains preschool teachers on inclusive education and how to support children with complex communication needs in the classroom and school environment.

She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reaching out to others in society and advocacy.

Lawuratu Musah-Saaka

Board Member

Lawuratu Musah-Saaka holds an MBA in Project Management and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology with Philosophy both from University of Ghana. She also attended Wesley Girls’ High School, Cape Coast.

She has received vast training in Project Appraisal and Risk Management, Monitoring and Evaluation, Results-Based Monitoring and Institutionalizing Gender in Public Service.

Monitoring and Evaluation is her main area of expertise, but she also has extensive experience in External Aid Coordination and Resource Mobilization. She is a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI), and Ghana Monitoring and Evaluation Forum (GMEF). She is a former Vice President for Events and Programmes of PMI Ghana Chapter.

Lawuratu is also a philosopher, strategist and has a flair for communication.

She loves politics and believes every problem has a solution once you are determined to solve it, and mentorship is one of the fastest routes. Giving back to society is a call to duty for her.

She is currently the Deputy Executive Secretary for Ghana’s Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission, and a Member of the Board of Directors for Ghana Publishing Company Limited.
