  • BACKGROUND

As a result of the infamous Wesley Girls’ High School (WGHS) restricting Muslim students from fasting during the month of Ramadan brouhaha, there was a lot of revelations spanning from girls being bullied for practicing their faith as Muslims.

The uproar brought Muslim old girls together to find an amicable and a lasting solution to the issue since it keeps recurring. Through interaction with current students, it came up clearly that the girls needed support on all fronts.

After a cursory needs assessment, what came up was the fact that the girls needed mentorship, which, if taken seriously, will take care of the support they require on all fronts. It has therefore become imperative to put together a comprehensive mentorship program that will serve this purpose.

METHODOLOGY

The forum will adopt a multidimensional approach of using physical/in-person and digital/virtual platforms to deliver.

Mentoring will be approached at two main levels:

General Mentoring

Level 1 mentors will be drawn from the pool of Muslim Old Girls of WGHS who will be willing to commit to the program without reservations.

Career/Professional Mentoring

Level 2 mentors will be drawn primarily from the pool of Muslim old girls of WGHS, and if not available, other professional Muslim women who are not old girls of WGHS will be considered.
